sculpture park

Lucia and I went to the sculpture park today. We walked around checked out the silver tree and the giant typewriter eraser sculptures. The weather was so beautiful and sunny. We got lunch at a Deli and sat in the grass behind Pike's Place talking. Afterward we went to the French bakery that I love so much and got macrons and iced coffee.

When I got home Philip and I took Annie to the dog park. She ran wild and played with a few dogs. I love watching her running and having what seems to be the time of her life.

Tomorrow Philip and I are going on a short road trip to Mt. Rainer. We plan to go on a hike and I'm excited to see the mountain close-up. Only two more days of vacation left.

lazybones

Another day of vacation has gone by and I'm so enjoying the lack of things to do. I went to Target this morning to look around and bought a few small things. I just love waking up and knowing I have the whole day ahead of me to do whatever, such as exciting trips to Target to purchase baby oil and toothpaste. It will be so difficult to go back to work in less than a week. Gulp.

Later in the afternoon Lucia and I went to Gasworks Park and walked around. We sat by the water for an hour or so. It was nice to get out of the house and I've wanted to go to that park for some time.

Tomorrow I have big plans to clean the carpet and try to read on the roof deck. Its supposed to be a warm day tomorrow. I also want to enjoy the last few moments of summer before it disappears. I also want to bake some mini pies.

Thrift Shopping

Philip and I went to Value Village to look around on Saturday morning after a little yard sale shopping. Boy oh boy do we both love junk. I found some pretty good stuff. I love when you can go on a shopping spree and only spend $20.

I got this metal recipe box for 50 cents at one of the yard sales.

This may be the only thing I really needed I accidentally melted my plastic colander the other day when I was cooking dinner.
I got two really cute new button down tops. Check out the tiny buttons on the gray one's sleeve, so adorable.

I loved this bright red case. It even has a mirror inside and an organizing tray in perfect condition. It doesn't smell like musty old basement inside like so many suitcases at thrift stores do. I'm thinking I might use it as my sewing basket. I'm trying to cut down on the mountain of sewing supplies I have since it takes up so much space and moving it every year is tough.

Before thrift shopping we went to Oddfellows for brunch. I had an incredible Caprese sandwich and an iced coffee. It was a pretty great weekend. I got to sew a new shirt, made some really rich brownies, walked Annie dog a lot and was pretty lazy.

william and sonoma wishlist

Tart pan
I really need a salad spinner. This one is so cool with its shiny steel.
I've been wanting one of these silicon pats forever. I am almost out of parchment paper so maybe I'll splurge.
Coolest frying pan I've seen lately.
I really like the design of these and everyone needs salt and pepper shakers.
I would like this microplane paddle in fine, medium and course.
Cutting things with a mandoline just seems like fun.
Last but not least the dutch oven. Oh how I would love this.

If money was not a problem these are some of the things I would choose for my kitchen. A little pretend shopping if you will.

Today I have a lot of errands to run and than I plan to bake in the afternoon and maybe sew. Oh how I love vacation.

Last night Philip and I went to see Plan 9 from Outer Space with the live Rifftrax, it has hilarious. We came home and stayed up way too late watching the rest of the Battlestar Galactica series. I have to say that I was pretty happy with the ending. Considering how bad the series got in the middle I was expecting much worse. Although it did seem a little rushed like they were trying to cram everything into the last hour and than poof it was over.

Annie Dog swims in a lake

Last weekend we took Annie back to the big dog park that has a swimming area at the end of the trail. She is usually a little wary of water and by that I mean waves cause her to run away. A few weeks back I did convince her to go into the lake with me. It involved some treats and a lot of pets. Well last weekend she finally swam. I know all dogs know how to swim but I really didn't think we'd be able to convince her to go out so far her paws were no longer on solid ground. Philip went out with her this time and she did a little doggie paddle lap around him. So cute.

Today is my last day of school. I have my anatomy and physiology final tonight and I will be on a vacation until I start back to work. It will be nice to have a break and not be worried about my next test or getting my homework done before Sunday night. I plan to spend the time off cooking and maybe taking the new car on a few road trips. I can't wait but for now I'm going to go read over the information on the nerves...again.

mad men

Mad Men is back tonight and I am excited. It is such an entertaining show with the best clothes. You can make yourself into a Mad Men character here. Here is mine:

+ oatmeal chocolate chip cookies
+ new car!!
+ 3 more days of school work

We bought a new car!!

We finally did it after weeks of talking about buying a new car. We bought a 2003 Hyundai Sonata today. I couldn't be more excited to have a car that doesn't violently shutter when you try to brake and that might not break down every other week. Yay! It took several hours to purchase it since we needed to look up Carfax reports and take it to a shop to be looked over. I googled a photo of a Sonata online since I haven't been able to take a photo of it yet. We got in this silver color. It looks a little like an old man car but I'm OK with that. Since we got back I've spent the rest of the day doing chemistry homework and drinking massive amounts of caffeine to stay awake. I can't wait until finals are over. Only 4 more days to go.....

good to be back

Whew. We're back from our trip to Reno. We only left for 5 days but it felt like we were gone for weeks. I was glad to get back home to Seattle but I did have a good time. We got to gamble a little bit and I won $100 playing roulette, which was exciting. I had no idea how to play so we just kind of guessed as we went along. I think the highlights of the trip included:

+ room service meals (tiny mustard jar!)
+ drinking wine in comfy hotel bed
+ beautiful old cars
+ GI Joe movie in the afternoon
+ meeting Philip's family
+ getting to see Philip's hometown

I guess I'm a boring person cause I was pretty excited to get back into my routine of walking the dog, baking, and watching TV with Philip and the pet family. I finally got a chance to use the awesome mixer today that I got from a yard sale for $38. I still can't believe it. The highlight of my week, hands down. So I made some really basic oatmeal chocolate chip cookies to break in the mixer.

I love squash

During the heat wave I didn't really feel like making anything new. Turning on the oven was unthinkable. I did make some squash with half a zucchini and tried out one of my new spices from Penzeys.

The carrots and broccoli are both from the farm I get deliveries from called Full Circle Farm. Their vegetables are so tasty. I love getting a new box every other week. If you live near Seattle and have been thinking of joining a CSF I would recommend them.

My weekend included a lot of homework since I've been trying to work ahead to get ready for vacation. Philip and I did take Annie Dog to the dog park on Saturday morning and she finally agreed to get in the water. I went in first and she slowly followed not wanting to leave my side. Every time a new wave came in she looked at me like lets get the hell out of here. After a few minutes though she was running around like crazy chasing other dogs and having the best time.
